Its the smallest things that count !!

I have been sick for almost a week with a chest infection so i havent been feeling like sewing let alone chatting or anything that didnt involve sleeping lol
but alas today i actually had the inspiration to make something,
All though i am a great beliver that quilts belong on beds i thought with christmas comming up i would make a small wall hanging for a very bare wall in our house. santa and rudy were my first attempt at applique and i think i pulled it off pretty well for a first timer.

here is also a picture of a phone dangle for my mobile phone. my sister lisa made it for me i thought it was great!!
the idea of these phone dangles is 1. to add a little bling to my phone and 2.so i can tell the difference between my phone and my sister sam's phone (we both have the same type and colour phone. 3. it has a little bell on it so i know i have it with me cause it dingles when i walk.

Quilting Horoscope

being that i am born on the 18th july that makes me a CANCERIAN and here is my Quilting horrorscope

Cancer - June 22 to July 22 Cancer makes quilts to please themselves not to showcase. They do appreciate compliments on their work but being timid they aren't likely to enter a quilt in a competition. They want their quilts to be practical and comfortable and aren't likely to hang one on the wall, but actually use them on beds. Being cautious they are most likely to stick to the traditional designs. They are not likely to add decorative touches, such as trims or whatnots. They believe that quilts are naturally beautiful and do not need embellishments. They love to use dark rich colours in their quilts considering these as more practical. When they discover a quilt shop they like, they become lifetime, loyal customers.

Heart - These dreams

i know this is nothing to do with quilting other than the fact that this is the kind of music i quilt to.
OMG i dont know what the neighbours think when im screaming out these power ballads lol
They must think im strangling the cat or something cause i would have to be the worlds worst singer. lol

One of my all time favourites, leather and lace by stevie nicks

Squishie Season

I would like to say firstly that i am stoked to have won the competition on swoozies blog for her 100th posting.
My squishie of goodies arrived today all the way from texas. I was so excited i opened it down on the foot path at my mail box.
I have had the biggest grin on my dial from the moment i saw the big envelope sitting on top on my mail box. thank you so much swooze the fabrics are absolutley fabulous. this will give me inspiration to make a quilt for my own bed and i will defiently be using the batiks you have sent me!!!
so thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much! im so happy that our paths have crossed you are a wonderful friend!!!

when i came home from brisbane at the start of the week, i got home to see a squishie on the bench. of course darling husband had opened it to see if it was a pressy for him but he was greatly dissapointed lol.
instead it was a squishie from a Quilt chat friend called ROMIKA. full of christmas FQ's and a lovely pattern for a applique pillow cushion cover. and a pretty little label for the back of a quilt.
so that didnt appeal to my hubby too much but i sure was stoked by it
i dont know the reason for the lovely gift from romika but it defiently made my day!! so in return i am sending the lovely romika a bottle of merlot from the wine region in the town i grew up in!
i hope she likes it.
once again another dear friend that i am glad our paths have crossed ,im so glad to have found great friends like the ones i have. And i have Quilt Chat to thank for that!!
you all know who you are , i love you all and if you all ever come up my way to the sunny state of queensland australia. drop in there is always a coffee or bevvie with ya name on it.

Brisbane Quilt and craft fair.

HELLLOOOOOOOOO
how have you all been ?
well i havent been too bad i recently went to the brisbane Quilt and Craft Fair.
I didnt get to see much of it. we had a emergency in the morning that only allowed us to go for about 3 hours and thats not nearly enuf time to see and fondle all the goodies.

so heres some pictures of the exibition quilts, OF course i only took pictures of the ones i liked hehehe!
so this first set of pictures are some of the nicest ones there.
the stain glass quilt i fell in love with.
and the gum leafs reminded me of eva (yvonne) as eva is doing a gum leaf quilt at the moment and just wanted her to see this one as im wondering if she would tackle one like this next, lol.
There was another that depicted the australian scene is the windmill and old shack in a thunder and lightning storm i took a picture of the lightning close up as it was great.
at the top of the post are pictures of faces that just amazed me, they were done by a lorraine carthew, if you double click on the pictures it will open them up lots bigger , they were made up of lots of little about 2 inch squares all joined together,
the first one is of a famous australian poet (whom i cant remember his name lol, is it RM Williams??) and the second is of a famous australian cricket player (lol dont know his name either lol) could possibly be sir donald bradman im not quite sure . If anyone can tell me these names please post the answers, and the third is a man i dearly loved and was obsessed with as a child even tho he was assasinated before i was even born.
the great JFK.
this fine artist also did the mosac looking birds, they were unreal
the photos dont do any of the quilts justice at all.
There were some fabulous quilts there but unfortunately i didnt take my larger memory stick with me so i only got 22 pictures in total ,
Next time i will take the big memory stick and make sure i take more.

There were heaps of great stuff there, i was a little dissapointed to see that there wasnt more quilting stalls , as alot of it was in fact beading and paper crafts, scrapbooking. im not against any of those i just love quilting more lol.

stockings and quilt

the quilt only took me 1 day from start to stop and i have been working on the stockings all week on and off.

Thursday, September 20, 2007

By george i think ive done it !!!!

It's finished finally. just in time too as i am giving it to my sister inlaw for her new house in october when i go down to BRISBANE (QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA) to the big quilt and craft show . Im so excited to be going finally to my first show.
well anyway this dresden fan took me a while to complete.
i got the top fininshed in 3 weeks the fans where hand appliqued onto the muslin blocks. the part that took the longest was the machine quilting of the pinwheels up the sides of the outer borders and the echo quilting on the fan blocks, this takes for ever especially when it is only done on my little singer. Its not perfect but nothing i ever do is....
But i am more than happy with the way it has turned out i am proud of myself i just hope she likes it !!!
anyways heres some eye candy for you all .
thats all for now lol will more than likely finish another ufo before i start something new .

What takes up my time?

Well these days it is hard to get into my sewing room for much needed "me" time.
i did how ever get to do a little quickie today, it is a tooth fairy pillow. with a little pocket in the front of it for the tooth to be replaced with money. and i have finished the first border on my turning twenty quilt top.

I have a 3 year old that takes my time
I have a 35 year old that takes alot of my time , especially when i am cleaner, cook and chief bottle washer, secretary, and nanny all in one.
as well as look after 5 puppies 2 adult dogs and 1 cat that is in and out the front door constantly she is a pain in the butt. she refuses to use litter tray so she insists that she be let out everytime she wants out!.
all in all it is very frustrating!

LOOK WHAT I MADE!!!

Hey see what i made today, I just started sewing and this is what i came out with ,lol long way from a glasses case that i was aiming for lol.
Arnie Pat is sending me some glasses case patterns so im stoked i will actually get it right with a pattern lol..
so anyway what would you call this thing? it has a pocket , and a little green pocket to maybe put a pen in or your little snippers , or you qik unpick (seam ripper). suggestions please!! it folds into cd case size. could i use it for a travel sewing case? or a little bag , it does hold my mobile phone and my keys and my wallet.
and what price would you put on it if you were selling it?
my mother wishes for me to make a few small things for her to sell at their craft stall,
my mother crochets so she asked me to do some patchwork items for her. for a bit of variety.
p.s. it was made from scraps out of my itty bitty fabric box.
SO TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK !!!! SUGGESTIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED !!!!!!

OUR DOG PORSCHE !! Well i had a interesting week tuesday nite just gone, my lovely dog Porsche went into labour. Being she was a second hand dog and was given to us with a million lies from the person giving her away, just to get rid of her. We were looking for a companion dog for our Bundy who is a brindle purebred staffordshire bullterrior. We heard of a 2 year old female that was a give away , we never had any intentions of breeding her ( i didnt think HE would succeed lol). Anyway, we have had her since january 2007 and they had told us she was fully vaccinated and has had a litter of puppies, I didnt think anything of it until i rang her previous vet clinic and asked for her file to be sent to my vet clinic and the lady said "Oh she has never been vaccinated !" I almost died .
Then when she came into season and porsche and bundy did their thing. we noticed her scoffing her food and getting fatter, we took her to the vet and he said yes she is pregnant and she has 5 puppies inside of her.
That was all good on tuesday nite she started acting funny and i went to get a bottle of milk out of the freezer in the garage and looked down and saw she was bleeding, i yelled to my sister and as she walked in i saw a little black puppy in her bed with her, I thought to my self "ABOUT DAMN TIME " i had been a nervous expectant grand mother to be and was ready for it to be over with , i thought 4 more to go!.
It took her a hour and a half to push the next pup out it was BIG, we let her do her thing and we picked it up and rubbed it with a towel and unfortunately it was dead.
with in 3 minutes of her having that one she pushed another out, and so on for the next 4 she was sooo tired after that 6 but she was still contracting like she had another in her, we felt her body and we were sure she had one stuck but the vet said only 5. we thought we would leave her with her 5 live puppies 2 boys and 3 girls and let her get some rest she mite pop the other one out soon if we leave her alone.
i awoke extreemely early the next morning and went to check on my darling, but was still contracting and pushing at count there were still only 5.
I wasnt sure if it was natural for her to still be doing this as i have never owned a female dog before. so i rang my sister at hehehehehe 5am and said what do i do?
she said not much till the vet opens.
so we took her and her puppies to the vet and suzanna said yes she has one still inside her. she said leave her here and we will give her a calcium shot and a oxytocion shot to contract her cervix, see if that helps her push it out .
10am came and suzanna rang and said sorry we have to do a ceasar, to get the pup out. i said ok do it!
she rang me again at 12 noon and said i suggest desexing her at the same time as when i was taking the puppy out i noticed she had previously had a ceasar and her insides are a mess. " i said do what ever you need to do !"
in the end the puppy was dead another boy , if they all had of lived we would have had 4boys and 3 girls. but thats just natures way i guess. so babies are well and getting fat, 6days old and never get off the tit lol. mother is doing well with her belly full of stitches that looks like a very badly made quilt lol. will post pictures asap.
On friday i managed to get my first row of my sisters browns turning twenty quilt, i soon realised all along that i wasnt actually doing a turning twenty lol it is actually a pattern called yellow brick road ! my mistake ! so i hope to have that together by the end of the week lol. thats all for now.

Two good things came from this week.

two good things came from this week. #1 i finished my table runner, i did the binding in a maroon colour, and i quilted it in diagonal lines nothing fancy but i used a dark brown and grey varigated thread by birch. and the #2 is that i was asked by my good mate swooze if i would like to be a Op in our Quilt chat room , i was stoked to think that they ( the Op's) think i am a valid enuf member of our chat room to become a Op. so i contacted scrappy blue ! and am still awaiting the chance to chat to her about training times. THANK YOU SWOOZE !!!! i love ya chick!!. so anyway that is all for now will find something to blog about really soon
btw my table runner was made from my fq stash the only thing i bought for it was the batting, so i hope that satisfies the no buying rule lol winx.
